Description
Join Riveredge Nature Center (RNC), Mequon Nature Preserve (MNP), the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (SANC) and the Urban Ecology Center (UEC) as we celebrate the return of spring.
Start the day at MNP by learning what plant phenology is, how tracking phenology can be an easy and a fun way to get involved in science, and why tracking these events is of high importance in our community. The morning will consist of hiking the trails of MNP to observe, learn, and record plant phenology.
In the afternoon, participants will get to experience RNC’s NEW Interactive Spring Ephemeral Phenology Trail and will be able to contribute to a nationwide phenology database, as well as, the sanctuary’s phenology records.
Then we will head to the cooler lakeshore and join Don Quintenz on a phenology hike at Schlitz Audubon with a sampling of what they do for public involvement regarding plant phenology.
We will end the day with Executive Direct Ken Leinbach on an informative walk through the new Milwaukee Rotary Centennial Arboretum that is now part of their outdoor classroom. The many years of phenology information they have collected will be discussed (and hopefully added to!) along the way.
This is a catered lunch event; pre-registration is required by April 24th. For more information or to register for this event please contact Mandie Zopp at mzopp@riveredge.us or call 262-375-2715.
