Who We Are
The Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts is dedicated to educating the public about the artistic, cultural, historic and social importance of quilts and fibers arts. We also seek to increase the awareness of historic structure preservation.
We want our visitors to understand just how crucial fiber arts are to everyday life, from the clothes we wear and products we use to deeper cultural meanings. The appreciation and mastery of time-honored skills related to quilting, crafting, and fiber artistry provide real, human connections to family, community, heritage, and the arts. These skills connect generations and cultures while demonstrating the unique stories of families, women, and immigrants in Wisconsin.
What We Do
WMQFA features changing fiber art exhibitions four times annually. The gallery is located in a fully restored 1860s barn that has been adapted for exhibitions.
The museum hosts both internationally-known and local artists and instructors. Classes and programs attract participants from throughout the country, bringing tourism dollars to southeastern Wisconsin. We have also greatly expanded our youth education programs to include Scouts, schools, drop-in programs, workshops, and are debuting summer camps in 2017.
WMQFA was proud to be nominated for the Wisconsin Governor’s Tourism Award for Arts, Culture, and Heritage. And USA Today ranked the museum as one of the top ten places in the United States to see a quilt. The museum also attracted the American Quilt Study Group’s national convention to Milwaukee in 2014 and Convergence, the biennale conference for the Handweavers Guild of America, to Milwaukee in 2016.
The museum also boasts a unique gift shop, working with over 50 local artists who sell their work on consignment.
