Balance's Children's Summer Rec Program provides a summer camp experience for children between the ages of 5 and 15 who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
This program is free for children with special needs in Ozaukee County and Balance relies heavily upon volunteers to make this possible.
Children in this program explore local and neighboring community recreation sites while interacting with peers, volunteer mentors, and staff. Each child is accompanied by an "Adventure Buddy" (a Balance staff member or volunteer) every day of camp. This ensures that every participant is always supported, safe, and happy.
The program currently offers two three-week sessions. The program operates on weekdays.
Daily activities include:
- waterparks, pools, splash pads, and lakes
- Betty Brinn children's museum
- playgrounds, picnics, talent shows, boating and fishing
Balance's Summer Recreation Program not only provides opportunities for adventure but also for establishing lifelong friendships and building social skills.
Volunteer shifts are on weekdays for a few hours.
